ABERDEEN SCIENCE CENTRE
THEATRE OF ENERGY
Happy Finish were invited to create a unique immersive and educational theatre space, The OPITO Theatre of Energy, within the Science Centre and as part of the complete overhaul and renovation of the new centre.
The project was designed, created, built, and installed the multifunctional immersive theatre space combining Body Tracking AI, Projection Mapping, Real-Time PRocedural asset creation, real game physics, laser scanning of the city centre and conversion of the data. The project was created in collaboration with ASC, OPITO, OGTC, SHELL, and the instruction of Physics. My role included creative ideation, conceptual design and initial visual design.
Within the space, there are three educational experiences: The Energy Show, The Energy Game and The Energy Wall. These were created all with the aim to bring the energy story to life in an engaging and educational way, supporting STEM learning for children and adults.

The Story of Energy
On entering the OPITO Theatre of Energy, visitors are immersed in the Story of Energy. This show, using the latest projection mapping technology, is projected over two walls providing a stunning introduction to how having a mix of energy sources is important to our lives, and how it is shaped by our demand.
The Energy Game
The mission of this interactive game is to balance the energy supply to an imaginary Aberdeen City without blackouts, ensuring less CO2 is emitted into the atmosphere and cope with changing weather conditions and demand.

Using touch screens, players choose their energy sources, creating an energy Avatar and discovering the pros and cons of each energy source. Everyday scenario's challenge the energy decisions the players make with the cityscape and avatars dynamically changing in real-time based on the energy mix you choose. The avatars have distinct personalities and attributes depending on your decision.

Your actions are then projected at bigger than life size scale onto the wall in front of the visitor.

The Energy Wall
This features seven of the core stores of energy; Chemical, Mechanical, Thermal, Electrical, Magnetic, Kinetic and Gravitational. Using body tracking AI, visitors can pick one with hand gestures and see their body take on the energy store properties on the wall in front of them! Up to six people can interact with the energy wall and different stores at any given time, creating a vibrate wall of energy.

As the visitor moves with the electrical energy store there are amating flashes of lightning, with elastic the spring coil from each arm and with the chemical energy store the reaction burst to life.
